Our People
BK Bots is led by education veteran and founder Sean Spillane.
We are in the process of building out our San Francisco Team so stay tuned for updates!
Sean Spillane, Founder + Lead Instructor
A San Francisco native, Sean has over 20 years of experience working with children on both coasts, starting here in 2001 as a residential counselor at the Edgewood Center for Children and Families, then moving east in 2005 to teach high school math, physics and robotics in Flatbush, Brooklyn. In 2011, he left the front of the classroom and returned to college as an undergrad mechanical engineering student, fulfilling a long-time dream of getting a third degree to go with his previous undergrad in Economics and Master’s in Math Education.
He was looking forward to an exciting career as a mild-mannered engineer, but in 2012 began teaching a series of pop-up, after-school robotics classes. They were fun, engaging and popular, and thus BK Bots was born. After graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2015, he took the robot business full-time, with classes in Lego Robotics, Arduino, and JavaScript, and challenge-based curricula that promoted learning through exploration.
He is currently an engineer at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab in Berkeley, California.
